Pop in your sweetener. Pour into mugs if you like it hot, or let it chill and put it over ice.

Pour the warm milk into the spiced mixture after straining out the chunky bits. Give everything a good stir.

Gently warm up the milk in another pot. Make sure it doesn't start bubbling.

Drop in tea bags or loose tea leaves if that's your thing. Let them steep for 3 to 5 minutes to taste.

Keep it all covered and let the flavors hang out in the hot water for 10 minutes.

Toss cinnamon and vanilla bean into the hot water. Switch off the burner and put the lid on so everything can steep. If using ground spices or extract, just mix them straight in, no waiting needed. Want star anise? In it goes.
