Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-low heat and cook the sliced onions for 25 to 30 minutes until caramelized. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute.

Preheat the oven to 190°C and grease a loaf pan or line a baking sheet.

In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, eggs, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, dried thyme, and half of the caramelized onions until just blended.

Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it in the prepared pan.

Bake uncovered for 45 minutes.

Top the loaf with the remaining caramelized onions and shredded cheese.

Return to the oven and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the cheese has melted and the internal temperature reaches 71°C.
