04 - Season with 1 teaspoon salt

→ Sauce

05 - 1 cup beef broth with low salt
06 - 3 tablespoons brown sugar
07 - ¼ cup Worcestershire sauce
08 - 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
09 - ¼ cup soy sauce
10 - 2 tablespoons tomato paste
11 - 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
12 - ½ teaspoon onion powder
13 - ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes, if you want a little heat

→ Optional Add-ins

14 - 1 medium onion, coarsely chopped
15 - 1 pound baby potatoes, cut in halves
16 - 1 to 2 tablespoons cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons cold water for thickening sauce
17 - 1 cup baby carrots
18 - 1 cup sliced mushrooms

# How to Make It:

01 - Dry the beef pieces well using paper towels, then sprinkle salt and black pepper all over.
02 - Heat olive oil in a big pan on medium-high. Brown the meat in batches until it looks nicely caramelized. Skip if rushed.
03 - Whisk the beef broth, soy sauce, Worcestershire, brown sugar, tomato paste, garlic, paprika, onion powder, and red pepper flakes together until smooth.
04 - Put the meat in the slow cooker. Add veggies around and on top if you're using them. Pour sauce over everything so it’s all covered good.
05 - Put the lid on and cook low for 6 to 8 hours or high for 3 to 4 hours until the beef breaks apart with a fork.
06 - About 20 minutes before eating, stir cornstarch into cold water till smooth. Pour this in, cover, and cook on high for another 15 to 20 minutes until sauce thickens.
07 - Serve the tender beef and thick sauce over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles. If you want, toss some fresh parsley on top and dig in.

# Additional Tips:

01 - Searing the beef first amps up the flavor. Low-salt broth helps keep things balanced.
