In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the sausage, breaking it into crumbles until fully cooked. Drain excess fat and set aside.

In a large bowl, combine the pancake mix with required liquids and eggs to form batter. Mix gently until just combined. Incorporate maple syrup, vanilla extract, baking powder (if using), salt, and cinnamon (if using).

Pour half of the pancake batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading evenly. Sprinkle the cooked sausage over the batter. Cover with the remaining batter, spreading gently to cover the sausage.
