Whisk milk and beaten egg together until smooth, then add to the remaining dry ingredients and stir gently to create a batter.

Dip the onion rings into the batter, allowing excess to drip off. Immediately coat them with Panko bread crumbs and return to the wire rack.

Heat oil in a deep cooking pot over medium-high heat. Fry onion rings in batches, turning once, until golden brown on both sides, about 3 to 4 minutes per batch. Remove and drain on paper towels.
