Sauté finely chopped onions in unsalted butter over medium heat until soft, approximately 5 minutes.

Add shredded sharp cheddar cheese to the softened onions; cook while stirring until melted and fully combined.

Roll out puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface and cut into 10×10 cm squares.

Place one tablespoon of the cheesy onion mixture onto each pastry square. Fold diagonally and press edges firmly to seal.

Brush each sealed pastry with beaten egg to promote a golden finish.
