03 - 1/2 teaspoon salt
04 - 150 grams granulated sugar
05 - 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
06 - 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
07 - 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
08 - 120 grams unsweetened applesauce
09 - 60 milliliters whole milk
10 - 60 milliliters melted butter or vegetable oil
11 - 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
12 - 100 grams grated carrot

→ Topping

13 - 67 grams granulated sugar
14 - 67 grams brown sugar
15 - 30 grams chopped walnuts or pecans
16 - 360 milliliters very hot water

# Guide to Cooking:

01 - Heat oven to 175°C (350°F).
02 - In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves until evenly mixed.
03 - In a separate bowl, mix applesauce, milk, melted butter or vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and grated carrot until combined. Add wet ingredients to dry and stir until a thick batter forms. Transfer batter to an 8-inch (20 cm) rectangular casserole dish with raised sides.
04 - In a small bowl, combine granulated sugar, brown sugar, and chopped nuts. Sprinkle evenly over the batter.
05 - Pour very hot water evenly over the topping without stirring. Place casserole dish on a baking sheet to catch any overflow. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes or until the center is set and bubbly.
06 - Let rest for 5 to 10 minutes before serving. Optionally, serve warm with additional nuts and vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

# Extra Suggestions:

01 - For enhanced flavor, use browned butter instead of melted butter. Pecans can substitute walnuts or be combined for variety.
02 - Use a baking sheet beneath the casserole dish to prevent spills during baking.
