01 -
Prepare the chocolate cake as per instructions on the mix or your homemade recipe. Once fully cooled, cut the cake into approximately 2.5 cm cubes for layering.
02 -
In a mixing bowl, whip heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract using an electric mixer until stiff peaks form. Set aside.
03 -
If using canned cherries, drain while reserving the juice; if fresh, pit and chop. Combine cherries with their juice or syrup and allow to marinate briefly.
04 -
In a large trifle dish or individual glasses, start with a layer of chocolate cake cubes, press gently. Spread a layer of vanilla pudding over the cake, then evenly distribute marinated cherries with some juice. Add a generous layer of whipped cream smoothing with a spatula. Repeat the layering sequence until the dish is filled, finishing with whipped cream on top.
05 -
Decorate the top layer with dark chocolate shavings and a few whole cherries. Optionally dust with cocoa powder. Refrigerate for at least 3 hours or overnight to let flavors meld and set the layers.
